First steps

I’m pleased to announce the first prototype of Figular is ready - you can try it now. It generates just one graphic: a circular arrangement of concepts you supply. There are options to centralise the first concept, change the rotation and font. Here’s an example of what it can produce:

This type of graphic could be useful in a presentation to illustrate how related concepts of equal importance contribute to an overall theme. OpenUK used one in a recent report:

A circular arrangement of elements, each indicating the percentage of open source adoption and type of software used by a different business sector. Excert from page 10 of "State of Open: The UK in 2021 Phase Two: UK Adoption" by Open:UK licensed under CC BY SA 4.0.

In the spirit of fail-fast I wanted to release the prototype as early as possible, even though it comes with a few restrictions. It can’t cope with anything other than the English alphabet and numbers for example. Working to a release deadline was also useful to avoid endless procrastination - it’s exciting to be able to show something and gather feedback.

Please try the prototype and let me know your thoughts. I will be adding further graphics in future and would love to hear what would be useful to you. A roadmap will be coming soon so you can see where Figular’s headed.
